The Democrats don’t oppose it is because there are Democrats on the ownership group, and Democrats involved in every step of the way. And tons of the controversial stuff happened in Milwaukee where Democrats run the city, so at the state level most Democrats didn’t want to touch this in a critical way. They had to pretend that they were left out of discussions.
